, the main issue is profit. The new airline aspires to be like Norwegian, WOW and Play. Two of those airlines failed to make low-cost transatlantic flights work. Norwegian killed off its long-haul routes during the pandemic, while Wow Air went bankrupt in 2019. The transatlantic dead end also includes Primera Air, La Compagnie’s UK-US business class route, and British Airways, which failed to resurrect all business class flights from London City Airport to New York post-pandemic.
So, if you’re ready to take to the skies with Fly Atlantic, the airline plans to fly to 35 destinations from Belfast with tickets going on sale in 2024. It’s starting with a small fleet of six aircraft with plans to expand to 18 aircraft within the first four years. With offices already in place at the airport, the airline hopes to create 1,000 jobs.
