He has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.SAN ANTONIO — A Bexar County judge has sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for a crash that killed a father and his daughter on New Year’s Eve 2020.

Cesar Gonzalez, 21, pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Gonzales was driving 85 mph, nearly three times above the speed limit, when his pickup struck a minivan backing out of a driveway in the 3400 block of West Popular Street, a news release from the District Attorney’s Office said.

Data from the Texas Department of Transportation shows the speed limit at that stretch of Popular is 30 mph.On ExpressNews.com:The minivan caught fire because of the collision, according to the news release. The blaze trapped Aguilar and two of the children inside the van. Family members who heard the crash rushed outside to try and free them, the DA’s Office said. The third child, Christina Spohn, 14, was thrown out of the van and fatally injured.

Gonzales testified he saw the minivan on fire and heard Aguilar screams but still fled from the scene, calling his decision “a mistake I can’t fix.”
