Houston man who beat life sentence in 2021 has been charged with murder in a new case
Lydell Ellliott Grant, 46, has been charged with the murder of Edwin Arevalo, 33, Houston PoliceArevalo's Toyota Yaris struck Grant's white Lexus sedan Thursday night at 13000 Hiram Clarke Road.MORE ON CRIME:Arevalo’s body was found by police about 11:45 p.m., authorities said.
Police obtained a warrant for Grant’s arrest after he was identified as the suspect, officials said. Grant was taken into custody Friday without incident, police said. In 2021, Grant made national headlines after he was found innocent after being sentenced to life in prison for a 2010 stabbing in Montrose.
Grant was convicted in a 2012 trial in Harris County for the death of 28-year-old Aaron Scheerhoorn on Dec. 10, 2010 outside of Blur Bar. The conviction was made based on testimony by six eye witnesses, at least one of whom later recanted his testimony according to the appeals court.
