President Trump is going to Maine as planned for the latest stop on his tour of companies producing medical equipment needed to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

WASHINGTON – The governor wants him to stay away. The state’s congressional delegation is skipping the event.

In Washington, protesters have been camped out near the White House for a week demanding police accountability and justice for Floyd. “Right now, our state and nation are in a fragile moment, which must be handled carefully,” he said. If Mills believes Trump’s visit would inflame tensions or hinder the state’s coronavirus reopening plan, “I respect her judgment,” King said.

Maine gives two electoral votes to the winner of the state’s popular vote and one to the winner of each of its two congressional districts. Trump lost the statewide vote to Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016 but still picked up one electoral vote in Maine after winning the second district – a feat he’d like to repeat in this fall’s elections.
