The Ashton-under-Lyne MP spoke at the opening day of Labour Conference in Liverpool
Angela Rayner says a ‘council house saved my life’ as she used her Labour Party Conference speech to unveil a raft of reforms.
“A council house saved my life… A Labour government took me from a council estate to the parliamentary estate,” the deputy leader told a packed auditorium. “That’s where my Labour values come from, and my confidence to succeed.” “This year’s conference comes at a pivotal time for our party and pivotal moment for the country,” she said. “I am sick of being in opposition.
Ms Rayner, who is also the shadow levelling minister, also unveiled a series of reforms on housing and workers’ rights, if Labour wins the election next year. She promised the ‘biggest boost in affordable and social housing for a generation’, which would include building new council homes.
