'Truly a tragedy:' 2 dead in apparent murder-suicide in front of 8-year-old girl, Houston police say
The woman who was shot was in her early 30s and had been in the driver's seat. The man had been sitting in the passenger’s seat. Investigators believe they had been at the hospital seeking unrelated medical attention for the child, but officials did not disclose specifics about what type of ailment or injury the girl may have been suffering.“From our preliminary investigation, it did appear the woman tried to exit the vehicle,” he said.Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Tien said no one else was believed to have been involved and that the scene was contained to the hospital's parking lot. All the shots were believed to have been fired in the car.Part of the hospital parking lot was blocked off with crime scene tape Sunday night, but the hospital was accepting patients and functioning as usual.
Houston police homicide investigators, along with the forensic science team, had been working to collect evidence at the crime scene Sunday night. Tien emphasized the preliminary stage of the investigation, adding it was too soon to determine a motive or to provide any additional information regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
