The death of a 7-week-old puppy is under investigation after witnesses allege the puppy was poisoned, according to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.

Authorities are investigating the incident, according to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.Animal rights activists are seeking justice for a 7-week-old puppy that died this week after ingesting antifreeze from a bowl allegedly placed by a Bessemer homeowner angered that the pooch was going into their yard.
On Tuesday evening, the Greater Birmingham Humane Society received complaints from witnesses who observed a person in Bessemer put antifreeze in a bowl by their front yard “in an attempt to poison puppies that were next door in an abandoned house” near 30th Street, said Allison Black Cornelius, the organization’s CEO.
She said witnesses claimed the person allegedly responsible for the incident exhibited other troubling behavior toward dogs. Witnesses “alleged that not only did [the poisoning] happen but that the individual that lives at this address frequently uses a firearm to shoot at dogs that are just passing by,” she said.
Calvin Tucker, who was in the neighborhood feeding dogs, rescued the puppy and took it to an emergency veterinary clinic in Birmingham.
