7 things you can do to get your resume ready for 2020:
If you’re job searching, it’s important that your resume stays up to date and fresh. Even if you’re not job hunting, it’s still a good idea to keep it current for whenever you do start a new job search or are up for a promotion within your company. Update your job information and descriptions.
Another year has passed, so make sure that any new job responsibilities and/or achievements are reflected on your resume. Pay attention to anywhere you have written things in terms of length of time. As the calendar changes from 2019 to 2020, your two years of experience become three, so make sure to update those figures accordingly.If you aren’t currently job searching, your resume is most likely missing your current role.
Things on your resume that helped you land your first job are likely no longer relevant, such as extracurricular activities or part time jobs that aren’t in a related field. You can also remove graduation years or any other dates that could indicate your age. The only years that need to be listed on your resume are your employment dates. Be sure that any new certifications and relevant skills are added to your resume.
An added bonus of updating your resume is that it’s a great opportunity to reflect on your accomplishments for the year. As you make your updates, take the time to look back at what you’ve achieved, how you’ve grown, and your areas of opportunity. Then from there, set goals for the new year and know your resume is ready to support you for whatever those goals may be.
