USA TODAY reporter DawnGilbertson spoke with Spirit CEO Ted Christie and stranded passengers in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, home to the airline's headquarters and busiest operation. Here's what day seven of the carrier's mass cancellations was like.

She tried to call Spirit's reservations center, but nobody answered. Slyman was directed to the rebooking assistance line downstairs at the airport. There were already 20 passengers in line when she got there before 5:50 a.m. Spirit passengers who had no rebooking luck Friday were sleeping on chairs and the floor.

Spirit's CEO had a conference call with reporters on Thursday but had been keeping a low profile as the airline grappled with a problem that spiraled beyond even the recovery from a blizzard or hurricane. Spirit's employees were his first priority on his first visit to the airport since the crisis began. Christie met with customer service and gate agents, ramp workers, maintenance employees and chatted with pilots and flight attendants he ran into. "In order to best take care of your guests, you gotta take care of your team,'' he said."There's a lot of things that we're trying to do to make sure that the team is supported.
