They spend months working on their race. To go through all the preparations and meetings and contact with runners and then not get to hold the race? They’re seriously disappointed.
Deferrals present an interesting challenge. The runners return in 2021. But their entry fees don’t. That money comes in—and has likely already gone out—this year.
“This is a no-win situation for everyone, the organizers and runners and vendors and partners,” La Sala said. “This is not a situation in which a race is trying to stockpile your money and keep it.”
