If anyone’s qualified to give advice on being more creative and less wasteful with what you have, it’s wellness expert, leftovers queen and committed up-cycler,. Walk into her home and it’s clear she has an eye for vintage, reclaimed pieces. Her living room is a homage to the ‘70s, filled with bold geometric prints, bursts of orange and red, and retro furniture salvaged from local car boot sales or charity shops.
She understands it's not easy. “Nowadays, we’ve become much more conscious of being sustainable. But it can be quite off-putting for a lot of people because they don’t know where to start,” she says, pinpointing many people’s struggle with sustainability: finding easy ways to incorporate it into our busy lives. So, we asked her to share her easy ways to live more sustainably."My home's a hotbed for lost and found pieces.
"I studied furniture and product design at university, so I love just picking up something discarded and turning it into something I’d want in my home. I give it a sand, a lick of paint or re-stitch the holes. I like finding something unique, bringing it home and seeing what I can do with it. When you shop on the high street, you just get lots of the same thing.""If I go to the supermarket, I always have an old bag or a cloth bag with me.
"I’ve now got a vegetable patch that I inherited with the house, and it’s been inspiring my cooking. I’ve been making lots of rhubarb crumbles, and I use my bay leaves in soups and stews.""I get called the leftovers queen, because I’m good at looking at the fridge and making something out of whatever’s there. I find that more inspiring than walking into a supermarket and having a huge amount of choice.
