The union has warned further strikes could be on the horizon if their demands are not met
Hundreds of health workers at two Wirral hospitals will take strike action next week in an ongoing row over back-dated pay.
UNISON says striking workers should be paid at least £2,000 more each year for performing duties and tasks well above their pay grade, including clinical tasks such as taking and monitoring blood, performing electrocardiogram tests and inserting cannulas. UNISON North West regional organiser David McKnight said: “Managers at the Wirral Trust seem intent on denying workers what they’re owed, despite other employers in the North West seeing sense. But these workers are determined to get the money they’re due, even if that means five further days of strike action.
A WUTH spokesman said: “When this issue was raised in May 2023, the Trust immediately pledged our commitment to ensuring our Clinical Support Workers are paid the right banding for the work we are asking them to do. The work to deliver our pledge has started.
