Domi, currently in his eighth season, does have 24 games worth of playoff experience in two different appearances with the Canadiens and the Hurricanes. Neither, however, resulted in anything past the second round.Domi was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 12. He regulates his blood sugar with an insulin pump attached to his hip, and tests his blood glucose level frequently during games.
Domi also has a special service dog named Orion who is capable of detecting low blood sugar via smell and will wake Domi up during the night if his levels fall below a certain threshold.“When I was at a dinner, at a movie, on a plane, wherever it may have been, and he was with me, he’d alert me,” he said. “I would know I was low, and I could treat it before I was in a major situation. What he could do was fascinating.
