Jimmy Garoppolo remains out of practice with a thumb injury, leaving Trey Lance to lead the starting offense in preparation for the 49ers’ home finale Sunday against Houston.
SANTA CLARA — Day 4 of ThumbWatch showed no sign of Jimmy Garoppolo on the practice field, casting further doubt on if he’ll start in the 49ers’ home finale Sunday against the Houston Texans.
All of which sets the stage for rookie Trey Lance to make his second career start, and do so with a chance to clinch a wild-card playoff berth, so long as the 49ers beat the Texans after the New Orleans Saints lose at the Carolina Panthers .
