Purdy was hit while attempting to pass on the first possession of the game.
After the 49ers’ defense forced a three-and-out to avoid a two-possession deficit, Purdy initially came out to start the second series. He took a couple steps onto the field, was summoned for a quick chat with Kyle Shanahan, took a few warm-up throws along the sideline, then came out in favor of Josh Johnson.
Johnson, an Oakland native, failed to generate a first down on that ensuing series, doomed by a second-down sack in which Reddick slipped past George Kittle and Jauan Jennings. This is the first playoff action of Johnson’s 14-year career. He took 11 snaps in the 49ers’ win over the Bucs last month and 11 more in the season-ending win over the Cardinals, throwing two total passes and completing one for 10 yards.
