Initial 53-man rosters around the NFL include 47 players who finished their college careers at Ohio State, while 15 former Buckeyes were among their teams’ final cuts.
The list of Buckeyes currently on active rosters does not include San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa, who is on the 49ers’ reserve/did not report list as he continues to hold out for a contract extension.
Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere will begin the year on the reserve/suspended list as he serves a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s gambling policy, while Denver Broncos outside linebacker Baron Browning is on the physically unable to perform list, which means he’ll be out for at least for their first four games.
Players on active rosters to begin this season include all six of Ohio State’s 2023 NFL draft picks – C.J. Stroud, Paris Johnson Jr., Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Zach Harrison, Dawand Jones and Luke Wypler – as well as undrafted rookie Ronnie Hickman, who made the Cleveland Browns’ roster after an excellent preseason in which he intercepted three passes.
The Browns and Saints lead the NFL with four former Ohio State players on each of their 53-man rosters. The Washington Commanders, Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans all have three rostered Buckeyes. Fifteen other former Ohio State players were among their teams’ final cuts as teams trimmed their rosters down from 90 players to 53. Notable players who did not survive final cuts include cornerback Bradley Roby, who the New Orleans Saints cut after two years with the team, and 2021 fourth-round pick Tommy Togiai, who the Cleveland Browns waived after two seasons with the franchise.
