Police say more than 20 shots were fired in a fatal Birmingham shooting across the street from a birthday party for three children. One person was killed, and no other injuries were reported.
Authorities have released the name of a man shot to death Friday night just across the street from where three young boys were celebrating their birthdays.near 45th Place North and Eighth Court NorthThose involved in the shooting did not appear to be affiliated with the large gathering across the street where twin boys, age 8, and another boy were celebrating their birthdays in the Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd Homes public housing community in Kingston.
Partygoers said they ducked when the shots were fired, but the barbecue continued once the gunfire stopped. Fitzgerald said South Precinct officers arrived to find Cummings unresponsive inside a vehicle. Cummings’ infant son was inside the vehicle with him when the shots rang out but was not injured.Fitzgerald said the preliminary investigation indicates some kind of argument took place and was domestic in nature. The fatal shots were fired into Cummings’ vehicle.The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made.
Cummings is Birmingham’s 125th homicide this year.
