Crowds gathered today for day one of the 2023 Southport Air Show.
Families flocked to the show today as it returned for another year on Southport's Waterfront. There was disappointment as the much-anticipateddue to"unsuitable" conditions, but there was still plenty on offer. The Red Arrows tweeted:"Unfortunately, our display @SouthportAir has been cancelled due to a very wet runway at the operating base of Blackpool Airport and low cloud, unsuitable for close formation display flying."The famous red planes had been spotted over parts of the region yesterday as they flew from their base at RAF Waddingham to Blackpool Airport. Despite the show being cancelled today, they were still spotted taking to the skies for a flyby.
But air show visitors still had a great day amid blue skies and sunshine. People enjoyed a Battle of Britain memorial flight, including the BBMF Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane. And there is still much to enjoy on theTickets are still available for the event with children under 16 going free - they must be accompanied by an adult.
