Three people were killed and five others hurt – two critically – in a high-speed Long Island crash late Sunday, cops said.
One motorist was driving at a “high rate of speed” and collided with three others on Sunrise Highway.Sunrise Highway was closed eastbound and westbound from Unqua Road to Old Sunrise Highway.A 2005 Nissan SUV was speeding east on Hempstead Turnpike near the Westminster Road intersection around 2:20 a.m. when the driver struck a parked 2009 Toyota Corolla, cops said.
Three other Toyota passengers — and two pedestrians who were standing next to the vehicle — were also hospitalized and treated for non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.According to an early WABC report, two of those injured were believed to be children. Multiple people – including two believed to be children – suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the network reported.A witness said the SUV driver had been speeding.Witness Zein Mohamed told the outlet that the SUV driver sped through a red light on Hempstead Turnpike, with no headlights on.
