The temblor broke on or near the Elsinore fault, a system that produced a 4.2 quake in roughly the same area on March 31, according to the U.S. Geological Survey
A magnitude 3.6 earthquake occurred at 1:18 a.m. on Saturday, about 3 miles northwest of Palomar Observatory, lightly shaking a large area of San Diego County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake, which started 8.3 miles below the Earth’s surface, originated on or near the Elsinore fault, one of the most active seismic systems in Southern California. The temblor occurred in the same area that produced a 4.2 quake on March 31. The USGS said that Saturday’s quake was felt in Pala, Fallbrook, Oceanside, Valley Center, Escondido, Warner Springs, Santa Ysabel, San Marcos, Vista, Carlsbad, Cardiff by the Sea, San Diego, Ramona, Santee, Lakeside, Alpine, La Mesa, El Cajon and Chula Vista.
