There are new developments in the investigation of a fatal shooting in the East Village on Thursday morning. Police now believe the woman who was killed was targeted, but still don't know why. JohnBDias has the latest.

The somber site was the backdrop to the first day of classes for some NYU students. They said as they left their nearby dorm room their eagerness turned to concern. Police said the victim has no prior criminal record and they still don't know why she was targeted, but New Yorkers know for certain that the current state of the city is frightening.
"This is the world we are living in. It's like no one has respect for anyone's life. Life is almost like nothing," another person said.
