Students from a suburb of San Diego that's home to a large number of refugees are trapped in Afghanistan after their families took summer trips to the embattled nation, according to the school district the students attend.
The families, many of them in the U.S. on special immigrant visas, had traveled separately to Afghanistan to visit relatives still living there. Swarms of people continue to converge on the airport in a desperate attempt to flee the Taliban-controlled nation. He added that the families are particularly scared because of the upcoming Aug. 31 deadline for the United States to end its withdrawal.
