2023 Porsche 911 Dakar First Drive Review: Hold onto your butts
Click the drive mode dial to the right one more time to access Off-Road mode, which automatically raises the suspension to its highest ground clearance. This also locks the all-wheel-drive system into a 50/50 front/rear split, though the side-to-side torque vectoring across the rear axle remains active. Go one step further and air down the Pirelli tires, and the Dakar will be in full-on sand dune attack mode.
Porsche borrowed the 911 Turbo’s cooling system, including a pair of large, 650-watt cooling fans, to help manage airflow and because the design of its center intercooler is less likely to be damaged off-road than those of other 911s. The GTS' center radiator was also removed to allow the reshaped front fascia.
