With new car prices going outta control, it's nice to see attention paid to an affordable model.
In a world of ever-rising prices, it's nice to see an automaker devote resources to a car that requires a minimum of financial resources to buy. Nissan isn't devoting much resources to its freshened-for-2023, mind you, but the subcompact sedan looks a little sharper than before and—crucially for budget shoppers—continues to exist.
For the ultimate Versa experience, you'll want the SR trim, which"adds several sport-inspired interior and exterior design elements," according to Nissan. It also wears the biggest wheels of the bunch—17-inchers—and comes with heated front seats, six audio speakers, the 8.0-inch touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, automatic climate control, a built-in WiFi hotspot, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
As before, every Versa shares the same 122-hp 1.6-liter I-4 engine. On Versa S models, that fuel-efficient engine can be paired to either a five-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission ; midlevel Versa SV and top-level Versa SR models get the CVT standard.
Pricing is not yet available, but for reference, the 2022 Versa costs $16,675 in base S form with the stick shift; the automatic bumps that to $18,345. The '22 SV starts at $19,485 and the SR just crests twenty grand at $20,085. Figure on those MSRPs inching northward slightly, but remaining among the most affordable among new vehicles generally.
—and that almost sounds sexy in 2022, when the average new-car price is pushing fifty thousand bucks.
