A better electric barnstormer—at least in straight lines.
, AMG worked over the cushy sedan in its typical fashion, adding power, starching up the suspension, and sprinkling a few visual cues to this speedier recipe inside and out.AMG's standard treatment for Benzes is fine. In fact, often, it's downright sublime. Look no further than the E63, the 603-hp version of the 2021Car of the Year-winning E-Class sedan. Here, however, the starting point is something short of a home run.
All of which is to say, the AMG-ified EQS is a mildly firmer-riding, more powerful EQS580, a sedan we've described as sofa-like. The EQS' dual motors are cranked up to 11, unlocking another 235 hp and 121 lb-ft of torque in full-attack Race Start launch-control mode for totals of 751 hp and 752 lb-ft. This chops the 0-60-mph time from 3.7 seconds to 3.0 seconds. The car would be quicker still if not for its immense weight.
So consider the 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS a really quick couch. Its stats are quite good for a piece of furniture, its summer tires helping it hang on for 0.95 g of grip on our skidpad and to stop from 60 mph in 111 feet. These numbers aren't bad, considering—which with more than 1,000 hp is much quicker, and is nearly a ton lighter—posted 1.05 g and 104-foot figures in those same evaluations.
