2022 election: Q&A with Joaquin Vazquez, 52nd Congressional District candidate [Opinion]
Tyler Geffeney, Juan Vargas and Joaquín Vázquez are running for California’s 52nd Congressional District.A: Congress can start by providing funding to invest in transforming our national power grid to 100 percent renewable energy, effectively stopping the use of fossil fuels, which are only exacerbating the climate crisis. We are in a climate crisis and legislation has to be ambitious if we’re going to have a chance of surviving this as a human race.
Q: How should the United States handle the growing number of refugees and asylum seekers from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Central and South America and elsewhere? Q: How would you try to improve border wait times for personal and commercial crossers at the U.S.-Mexico border? A: To start, we need to pass Medicare for All so that there are no more unnecessary deaths due to the lack of health coverage. We must also be quicker in providing free home test kits from the start, not just when things improve, and locations for testing and vaccinations must be set up in suburbs and communities that have the least resources as those are the ones who have a harder time getting to central locations.
Q: How would you use your federal position to advance local issues, such as housing, homelessness and veterans affairs?
