The most recent American to make a Grand Slam final was Roddick, in 2009 at Wimbledon. There, he fell to Roger Federer, giving Federer his record-breaking 15th major title, which put him past Sampras and added salt to the American wound.

In the following years, Roddick made the 2010 Australian Open quarterfinals and the 2011 U.S. Open quarterfinals before retiring from singles competition in 2012.The most recent American winner of the French Open and the Australian Open , Agassi is one of just eight men to achieve the career Grand Slam. After Roddick’s 2003 title, Agassi reached one more tournament final, at the 2005 U.S. Open, where he fell to Federer in four sets 6–3, 2–6, 7–6, 6–1.
