Police had been called to a possible break-in at an abandoned industrial unit when they found the cannabis.

A cannabis farm which has an estimated street value of about £2.5m has been found in an abandoned warehouse.

The plants were discovered in Newport, Telford, after officers received a report of a possible break-in at an industrial unit. About 2,800 cannabis plants were discovered– although police believe further searches might reveal even more. Nobody was discovered in the building but there were signs of people living there. No arrests have yet been made.Ch Insp Richard Bailey said: “Cannabis farms like this are often linked to serious and organised crime gangs, the drugs they sell have a negative impact on our communities and can lead to other localised criminality. The force said there was evidence at the scene of cropping having already taken place and people might have been living there.
