PHOENIX — A 19-year-old woman was killed in a crash Monday night near 40th Street and the 202, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
The crash happened at 7 p.m. and upon arrival, rescue crews found a white passenger vehicle and a gray SUV in a landscaping area just off the intersection. Phoenix Fire provided medical aid to three occupants of the white vehicle. Officers located the driver of the SUV who was able to get out of the car after the collision, police said.
One of the occupants in the passenger vehicle, 19-year-old Jade Pedro, later died from her injuries at the hospital. The driver of the passenger car remains in the hospital in critical condition, police said. The third occupant of the passenger car and the driver of the SUV were treated and released.
Detectives said preliminary information suggests the SUV ran a red light while heading eastbound on the 202 Freeway access road and collided with the passenger car that was heading northbound on 40th Street. Impairment appears to be a factor involving the driver of the SUV, police said.
