A teen pilot survived a crash Sunday after his plane nose-dived into the ground Sunday evening in Cleveland.
The 18-year-old called the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office around 10 p.m. reporting his plane crashed. The teen told dispatches he was cold, wet and hurt, but was not able to give them his location. Dispatchers were able to trace the call and see he was south of the Cleveland Airport runway and near Tarkington Bayou, which had flooded. Cleveland Fire Department was dispatched to look for him, but because of flooding, an airboat was called. The pilot remained on the phone with dispatchers while they searched and told them he could see lights and hear voices. Firefighters were able to get to him and the plane around 11 p.m.The plane had taken off just after 9 p.m. from the Dan Jones Airport in Harris County and it never reached over 1,700 feet.
