On Sept. 15, 1963 at 10:22 a.m., an explosion rocked the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. To commemorate the 60th anniversary, church bells around Birmingham will sound today at 10:22 a.m.

Lisa McNair, the sister of one of the victims, made this request. According to McNair, churches who don’t have bell towers will use hand bells in front of the church to mark the moment of the bombing and a Jewish temple will blow the shofar.
