for the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans. As expected, it marks a significant break from the past decade of races and is highlighted by the largest group of factory-backed top-level prototypes in a generation or more.
With the addition of extra cars that otherwise race full-time in IMSA, Porsche and Cadillac's factory programs each grow to three cars for the race. Porsche Penske Motorsport has its two WEC entries plus an additional IMSA car, which so far only has Felipe Nasr named to a role.
Behind the Hypercar class, the highlight is the"innovative cars" entry that has been granted to Hendrick Motorsports and their modified NASCAR-spec Camaro. That Garage56 program will not be competing for any specific honor, but it has been accepted to compete in the race itself. Seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson, Formula 1 champion Jenson Button, and Le Mans overall winner Mike Rockenfeller have already been announced as the drivers for that entry.
