The Bureau of Prisons on Tuesday enacted a 14-day quarantine for the approximately 146,000 inmates under its watch in order to stem the spread of coronavirus by lisettevoytko
BoP described the quarantine as “phase five” of its plan to counteract COVID-19; previous measures taken included quarantining newly-admitted inmates and inmates exposed to the virus, along with isolating symptomatic inmates.
Services like mental health treatment and educational programs will continue “to the extent practicable,” the BoP saidIn the federal prison system, at least 29 inmates and 30 staffers have tested positive, according to CBS, citing data from BoP.have reported COVID-19 infections since March 22, with critics calling for the facilities to speed up releases.
