Thousands of toys have been going to families in need for Christmas thanks to the tireless work of a Glasgow charity - who admitted it has been one of their toughest years ever.
Councillor Dempsey said: “It has been a really tough one this year. It has been an emotional roller coaster. There were times when I thought: ‘we are not going to pull this off.’ You run out but then someone phones and says they have a toy collection. It is great how it all comes together.” She said half of the mums and dads using the Christmas appeal this season are working with many in full-time employment. In previous years it was generally people on benefits.
The help is needed now more than ever. As well as the Christmas Appeal - which runs throughout the entire year - the service supplies essentials for families in need in the city, giving out clothes, toiletries, shoes and other items.
