SAN ANTONIO — The 100 Club of San Antonio has stepped up to offer immediate aid to the two police officers who were seriously injured in a shooting on the northeast side Thursday night.
“It’s always just a sinking feeling in your stomach to know that it’s happened yet again,” said Richard Miller, president of the 100 Club of San Antonio. “I always say hear a siren, say a prayer,” Miller said. Miller has been in contact with SAPD’s Family Assistance Officers hoping to find out what type of help the injured officers’ families need. As of Friday night, police officials said the officers were in stable condition and recovering at Brooke Army Medical Center. The extent of their injuries is unclear.
One of the officers allegedly shot by 40-year-old Jesus Prado has been with SAPD for two years while the other officer holds seven years with the force. For 50 years, the 100 Club of San Antonio has helped thousands of families of fallen and injured first responders, providing financial assistance and resources for improving mental health.“We stand ready to get out to the family with financial support in the form of a check. We also provide some gift cards that are handy sometimes in the hospital or even if they’re not admitted,” Miller said.
