Taggart is turning 40 this week - and the people of Glasgow are marking the special milestone in style.Glasgow Caledonian University , with the help of Taggart star, Blythe Duff, is creating an archive on the hit detective show that is adored worldwide. Anyone who was involved in the making of the Glasgow-based series is being urged to pop along to the university and share their story for Taggart: The People's Archive from September 6 to 8.station to take ‘witness statements’.
Created by Glenn Chandler, Taggart took its name from the show's lead character Detective Chief Inspector Jim Taggart, originally portrayed by Hamilton-born actor, the late Mark McManus, and its gritty realism and compelling storylines proved a huge hit with the public. The long-running series, which was largely filmed on location in and around Glasgow, proved to be fertile ground for both established Scottish actors and emerging talent.
Over the years, we've witnessed household names such as James McPherson, Blythe Duff, Colin McCredie and John Michie emerge from the show, with the likes of Una McLean, James Cosmo, Alan Cumming, Kate Dickie, Vincent Friell, Daniela Nardini, Ken Stott, Gavin Mitchell, and even singers Paul Young, Barbara Dickson and Fish, making guest appearances.
