From who created Anakin Skywalker to a Force Dyad hiding in plain sight, here are 10 Star Wars theories that completely change the prequel trilogy.

The best Star Wars prequel theories completely change George Lucas’ trilogy and the Skywalker saga as a whole. After Return of the Jedi, Lucas got to show the Jedi at their prime, at least compared to the original films, as he always intended. Instead of making a sequel to Return of the Jedi right away, Lucas went back to 32 BBY with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and told Anakin Skywalker’s origin story in three films that also introduced several new characters and concepts.

More recently, Charles Soule’s Darth Vader comics reignited the “Palpatine created Anakin” theories. Vader was remembering his life and saw a vision of Palpatine behind a pregnant Shmi Skywalker, which seemed like a confirmation that Sidious created Anakin. However, Lucasfilm later confirmed that Darth Vader’s visions were not necessarily reliable, and that Vader was simply picturing Palpatine as someone who had manipulated him his whole life.

8 Anakin Was Not The Chosen One Luke Skywalker was the classic hero from Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey" in the original Star Wars trilogy. Anakin Skywalker, on the other hand, fell into the “chosen one” trope. The Phantom Menace introduced the idea of the Chosen One, a person who, according to a mysterious prophecy, would bring balance to the Force.

In that scenario, Dooku may have been frustrated by the fact that the Jedi Order never believed in his true potential. Likewise, if Dooku believed he was the Chosen One, he must have been sure that his plans for the future of the galaxy were for the greater good. Count Dooku was not necessarily seeking power or destruction, but maybe he believed that, as the Chosen One, he was the right person to lead the galaxy into a new path.

That is not to say Qui-Gon Jinn wanted Anakin to become a Sith Lord that would kill and destroy. However, if Qui-Gon Jinn somehow realized that Anakin’s turbulent path was necessary to destroy the Sith once and for all and bring balance to the Force, this theory works quite well. It would be on-character for Qui-Gon to know that the Jedi would be defeated in the next few years, but that Anakin’s fall to the dark side was just the beginning of a much longer story.
