Many superhero movies have post-credit scenes that tease a sequel that never arrived, but non-superhero movies are guilty of it too.
While so many superhero movies have post-credit scenes, there are just as many non-superhero movie post-credits scenes that went absolutely nowhere. While post-credits scenes have been a thing for decades, superhero movies got the most use out of them starting in the 2000s, as studios saw them as a way to set up new characters or a sequel.

It has been well-documented how badly received the 2016 Ghostbusters was, and it has such a bad reception that even the studio refuses to recognize it, as it wasn't included in a physical Ghostbusters box set.
7 Charlie's Angels Elizabeth Banks seems to have bad luck when it comes to setting up sequels with post-credits scenes. Along with featuring in Power Rangers: The Movie, Banks was in the director's chair for the 2019 Charlie's Angels reboot. In a post-credits scene, Elena, one of the Angles, gets her official tattoo and congratulations from Kelly Garrett, a former Angel, who has become the new Charlie.
5 Hitman: Agent 47 The Hitman movies series is another video game franchise that has unfortunately had a string of failures. The franchise began with 2007's Hitman, which underperformed at the box office and even failed to win over fans. The reboot, Hitman: Agent 47, arrived eight years later, and it received the exact same reception. In the post-credits scene, the movie's villain, John Smith, is revealed to still be alive after being killed by Agent 47.
