Joker has haunted the DC Universe for a while, but he isn’t alone. The iconic villain has some truly surprising variants across DC's multiple Earths.
The Joker is one of the worst villains to ever come out of the DC Universe. Few villains have racked up as high a body count or caused as much mayhem as the Clown Prince of Crime. The only saving grace the DCU has is that there is but one Joker in their world.
9 The Laughing Man Detective Comics Annual #7 presented an alternate world where Gotham’s most iconic figures sailed the seven seas as pirates. Instead of Batman and Robin, there’s Captain Leatherwing and Robin Redblade. And instead of the Joker, Captain Leatherwing is haunted by a rival pirate lord known as the Laughing Man, a garish, Joker-like seafarer. This version of the Joker isn’t so much concerned with creating chaos as he is discovering his nemesis’ secret cove.
6 Jokester Not all variants of the Joker are evil. Some actually use their wacky talents for the betterment of the world. Earth-3 is a world of reversed moralities, where the Crime Syndicate exists instead of the Justice League. Though the number of heroes in this world are few, one of the greatest heroes to vex the evil Owlman is the Jokester.
3 Tangent Joker Tangent Comics was an imprint that presented a DC Universe that only shared names with its counterpart. Instead of being a murdering, psychopathic clown, the Tangent Joker is a freewheeling anarchist with a screwball sense of humor. While the Prime Joker’s identity is unknown, the Tangent version of the Joker is revealed to be a shared identity between the Earth-9 incarnations of Madame Xanadu, Lori Lemaris and Mary Marvel.
