One person dead, one injured in explosion at Seneca Petroleum Company refinery in Lemont
Emergency crews respond after an explosion at the Seneca Petroleum Co. in Lemont on April 25, 2023. One person died and one was injured, according to the Will County sheriff’s office.
One person died and one was injured in an explosion Tuesday morning at the Seneca Petroleum Co. refinery at 12460 New Avenue in the Lemont area, Will County sheriff’s office Public Information Officer Kathy Hoffmeyer said. About 10 a.m., an asphalt tank exploded at the refinery, Hoffmeyer said. One person died in the explosion, and one injured person was transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.Several fire departments responded to the scene and had extinguished the fire by 10:30 a.m., Hoffmeyer said. Fire personnel did not report any danger to the public, she said.The explosion caused some power lines to fall.
