BREAKING: A driver was fatally crushed in a fiery crash involving an SUV and an 18-wheeler on the Houston Ship Channel Bridge early Sunday morning, according to police.

A big rig was driving south on Interstate 610 around 3 a.m.. when a white sedan struck the rear of its trailer as the vehicles crossed the ship channel bridge. The impact disabled the 18-wheeler’s back tire and caused the SUV to strike a road barrier, partially catching on fire. “The SUV bounced off the barrier and…partially crushed the driver of the vehicle, who was then pulled out,” said Houston Police Department Patrol Sgt. David Rose. “The officers tried to administer life-saving first aid before, unfortunately, the person perished on the scene.”“Based on how the crash happened, on its face, it looks like the SUV was at fault,” the sergeant said. “Unfortunately, the impact of that collision was at highway speeds.
