1 seriously hurt in multiple vehicle crash on I-57 near Cal-Sag
– One person is dead after four vehicles were involved in a crash Friday morning on Interstate 57 near the Cal Sag Channel.
Illinois State Police said, around 8:30 a.m., a white Peterbilt dump truck had broken down and parked on the left shoulder of the southbound lanes of I-57 near the Cal Sag Channel, when a gold 2014 Chevrolet sedan in the right lane crossed all lanes to the left and hit the back of the truck, then swerved back to the right.
Two other cars, a red 2010 Pontiac sedan and red 2018 Hyundai sedan, were hit by debris from the crash. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 52-year-old man, was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released. All southbound lanes of the expressway were closed for more than two hours after the crash, but all lanes reopened by shortly after 11 a.m.
