A rare white bison calf was recently born at Bear River State Park in Evanston, Wyoming.
According to members of the National Bison Association, the birth of a white bison is a one-in-10-million occurrence.
Not to be mistaken for albino bison, these white bison are celebrated and worshiped by many American Indian tribes. Officials of Bear River said that their white calf was brought into the world in the early hours of May 16 becoming the park's only white bison. The coloration is reportedly a result of a very small amount of cattle genetics that were mixed in with the bison's DNA, rather than a gene fluke like albinism.
