Police are investigating after four people were shot, one of them fatally, at a Salt Lake City apartment complex Monday evening.

Witnesses told officers there was “a very large commotion, a fight” just before shots were fired, police spokesman Brent Weisberg said. After the shooting, those witnesses saw several people leave in cars. While officers initially urged people to stay away from the scene at the apartment, they announced it was secure about an hour later. On Monday evening, children walked around the complex, gathering outside units behind the complex’s metal fencing.
